Line of the night – “I said put the gun down Widmore!” - Richard Alpert aka Dorian Gray
On to the episode - Desmond rushes to Penny’s boat with a doctor and we find her in labor. She gives birth to a baby boy…who we find out later is named Charlie! So is the baby named after Charlie Pace of Drive Shaft (and hero to the Oceanic survivors) or Charles Widmore?
Ghostbuster Miles, Charlotte “C.S.” Lewis, Daniel and 2 Firewood Gatherers are heading back to the river when…ohh shoot trip wires blow up the 2 FGs. The group is captured and headed off to their camp led by “Ellie” (the hostiles I guess)? Note to self, something tells me that Ellie is going to play an important part later.
Desmond is on the boat talking to his new son. He explains about his dream/memory again his vision quest to find Daniel’s mother.
Locke, Sawyer and Juliet have 3 of the Hostiles captive. Juliet reveals another talent and speaks latin to them?! One of the jugheads starts to explain the location of their camp after Juliet asks if Richard Alpert is there, and his neck is broken by the a-hole Jughead. He reminds me of someone, but whooooo? WHOOSH
Flashforward to present day 2008 and Desmond is at the house of Teresa Spencer. It turns out that she’s phasing in and out of consciousness. Maybe she doesn’t have an awesome constant like Fisher Stevens like I do? Does anyone have “My Science Project” on dvd or even vhs because I would like to borrow it. Anyway, Teresa’s sick and we find out that Mr. Widmore was Daniel’s benefactor for time travel research and paying for Teresa’s medical care. God bless em’. WHOOSH
Back to the past Miles, Charlotte and Daniel are brought to the Hostile camp. Daniel plays along that they are from the U.S. military for the bomb. Daniel is brought before Richard Alpert. Richard explains how his people were forced to take out a battalion of 18 army troops. When Daniel questions Richard on why he was “forced to” kill them, Richard explains, “We all have a chain of command to follow.” Segue to a shot of John Locke in the woods! (Nice move).
Juliet is asked how she knew Richard would be in the camp. “He’s always been here.” Sawyer comes back with, “Well how old is he?” Her weak ass response, “OLD!” I saw a weak response coming and I still feel let down. Locke goes down to talk to Richard and Sawyer says, “Do you wanna stay here in crazy town or help me save the geek?” Juliet goes with Sawyer.
Daniel is apparently is the Hostiles best chance at disarming the nuclear hydrogen bomb sitting in a perched wooden frame. Daniel keeps looking at the young woman (Ellie) leading him off to the bomb. “You look like someone I once knew.” Hmm…maybe it’s Daniel’s mom, Mrs. Hawking???? Kind of ironic, don’t ya think. Daniel reveals that he and his friend are from 50 years in the future. Maybe this is the reason that Mrs. Hawking is so knowledgeable in time travel? This one event caused her to think outside the box and figure out the possibilities of traveling through time and space…”it is your destiny..” Just a thought.
At this point I hear a champagne bottle go pop and a Theory enters my worn out mind (I’ll get to theory I had at the end).
We jump in the Delorean and were back in the future. Desmond’s a bad ass (not Sayid bad ass, but close) and confronts Charles Widmore. “Before you sent Daniel Faraday on your little boat to the island, you funded his research for 10 years!” Desmond finds out that Daniel’s mom is in Los Angeles…BINGO – Mrs. Hawking IS Daniel’s mom. WHOOSH
Fill up Mr. Fusion and we’re back to the past…John Locke walks right into the Hostile camp. Locke tells Richard that “Jacob sent me!” A-hole jughead raises his rifle at John’s head… “I said put the gun down Widmore!” (Love that line). John finds out that he took down Charles Widmore in the woods and is now staring at the same man who will hunt down ‘the others’ and the Oceanic 815 survivors in order to gain back control of the island. Nice twist with that one, and I honestly didn’t see it coming. WHOOSH
Desmond tells Penny that Daniel’s mom has been dead for a few years. She sees through his lie and stubbornly insists that she go with him to L.A. to find Daniel’s mom. WHOOSH
Richard is sitting with Locke in the tent. Locke shows him the compass that Richard gives to him in the future. Richard reveals that there is a very specific process for selecting leadership and it’s typically done when the leader is young. Locke finds out that it’s 1954. In 2 years, on May 30, 1956 John Locke will be born. “If you don’t believe me, why don’t you come and visit me?” (I did see that one coming). Locke still needs to get info from Richard on how to get off the island when BAMM the island shifts and they travel through time again. Charlotte looks like she’s about to puke, but instead gets a Louden Swain (I'm gonna drop down to 168 and wrestle Shute) bloody nose and…….BOOM we’re out.
So here’s the theory: Since the island is moving Locke, etc. through time, they are interacting with other people on the island whether it be Daniel talking to Desmond or Locke talking to Richard. It’s clear that destiny and fate are coming into play. Because of this conversation between Locke and Richard, Richard will leave the island and track John through life till he’s ready to be the leader Jacob wants him to be. Richard visits Locke as a baby, and then again as a five year old boy in Season 4.
Richard asks John if he minds if Richard shows him a couple of neat things. Richard notices a drawing on the wall of the room of a man lying on the ground while a mass of black springs from the ground and hangs over him, resembling an attack by SMOKEY. When asked by Richard if he drew the picture, John nods his head. Richard tells John that he wants him to look at some objects, and tell him which of them are his. The boy thinks Richard means "to keep" but Alpert clarifies, "Which of these things belong to you already?" He lays out on the table a baseball glove, a book entitled "Book of Laws", a bottle of granules, a compass, a comic book, and a Crocodile Dundee knife.
As the island group moves through each phase of time, they are directly affecting their future destinies?!? It will be interesting to see who’s fate is toyed with next. I’ll bet that they move through time to fall of 2004 and Sawyer sees Kate. He’ll accidentally speak to her, and “pop” another memory comes into play.
Until next week, Namaste and Good Luck!
