Line of the night – Combo of Sawyer and Miles “You heard the man…Translate!” “Uhhhh…he’s Korean, and I’m from Encino!”
2 very intriguing moments in this week’s episode…one involving Rousseau and the other involving Charlotte.
So we start the episode with the Oceanic 6 sitting on the dock of the bay and Sun receives a telephone call from her mom and daughter. We see little 2 ½ year old Ji Yeon speaking muffled Korean and it’s simply adorable. I visualize Michelle and Nurse Kim beginning to cry as they think about Jin and how he’s missing out on his little girls life…how sad. Sun hangs up on our little princess and busts out the Glock.
Sun approaches Ben, and I think the sound guy, better known as the production sound mixer, screwed up because it sounds like she was loading a freakin SHOTGUN and not a small handgun. Sun’s ready to fire, but Benry weasel’s his way out of another sticky situation, “Jin’s alive and I can prove it!” WHOOSH
Back on the island, we find out that it’s 1988…Rousseau’s science team left Tahiti, Full House rules ABC’s TGIF, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit was #1 at the box office. We see Frenchie working the radio and he picks up my favorite numbers…4..8..15..16..23..42. Jin explains that he’ll take Danielle’s team to the radio tower, and then find his camp. Is it me or did traveling through time really increase Jin’s English vocabulary 10 fold? I wrote down Jin’s comment to Danielle and it went like this, “So I really need to figure out where the heck my camp is, and did y’all see a helicopter, because if you did, then that means my wife is alive, probably somewhere waiting for me on the island!”
The French group starts walking through the woods and all of the sudden the other French chick is missing. I hear a clicking, do you??? Aww yeah, here comes Smokey. “What is it…?” Jin’s response…”Monster!” (Before Jin even says the line, I look over at Angela and call it (and I even threw in a Korean accent).
Smokey rolls in because he knows the French are assholes and goes after a-hole number 1. The apparent leader of the science team gets taken into the ruins of an ancient Temple, but not before his freaking ARM is ripped off!! In 5 years we’ve never seen anything like THAT before. A little nasty for my taste. The rest of men go into the Temple looking for their leader.
Question – what do you think they found in there? Will we ever find out? I bet on the DVDs for Season 5 they’ll show some out-takes of the team inside the temple bearing witness to a bunch of little Indian kids looking for the lost Shankara stones and maybe even a little sacrifice to Kali. “Kali-mah..shookdiday!” If you get that reference, I salute you.
Jin keeps Danielle out of the temple ruins and we have another time shift. Jin gets to the beach and finds a music box. Hmm that looks just like the music box that Sayid fixes for Rousseau in Season I….I wonder if…..yep there’s 2 dead Frenchmen and you hear Rousseau in an argument with her boy Robert.
Here’s Intriguing moment Numero Uno for the evening. Robert says that Smokey is a security system guarding the temple, and that he loves her and their baby. Danielle exclaims, “that thing changed you…you’re not Robert!” I start to think Danielle is over-reacting. She actually puts down the gun, when all of the sudden Robert raises his rifle and pulls the trigger! Holy crap! Danielle returns fire and kills Robert. So now we know how her team all got sick. They all must have gone kookoo for cocoa-puffs when they were in the temple ruins. WHOOSH.
Another time shift and FINALLY Jin is back with the old band. We get the line of the night and find out that Charlotte talk Thai. But Charlotte can’t talk Thai! Ohhh Yes…Charlotte talk Thai very well (actually Korean). She explains to Jin that Sun is off the island and they are traveling through time. WHOOSH.
Benry convinces Sun to come with him. “There is someone here in L.A., and I’ll show you the proof, the same person who will help us get back to the island.” There is a mad scramble…Kate leaves…Sayid leaves and threatens Jack and Ben. WHOOSH.
We get 2 quick flashes on the island and Charlotte collapses. Daniel understands why they are going to the Orchid station, but doesn’t’ understand why all of the Oceanic 6 have to come back to the island. Charlotte starts speaking more Korean. She says, “don’t let them bring her back, no matter what, this place is death!” I really thought she was going to say something a lot cooler, and where in the hell are Rose and Bernard? WHOOSH.
Jack breaks down and apologizes for leaving Jin on the boat. Sun is wondering why he is bringing this up 3 years later. They both threaten Ben’s life again. Ben stops the Mystery Machine and goes nuts, “do you know what I’ve had to do to keep you safe? To keep your friends safe?” WHOOSH
Back on the island and Charlotte’s in bad shape, “Turn it up, I love Geronimo Jackson!” “Look for the well, you’ll find it at the well!” Ok so Charlotte knows how to get to the frozen donkey wheel, interesting. They leave Daniel to stay with Charlotte as she speaks nonsense. Hold up, she starts to make some interesting comments. Intriguing moment #2 for the evening – Charlotte says, “I’ve been here before. I grew up here on the island as part of the Dharma Initiative. I left with my mom and went back to England. I became an anthropologist to find the island again. I’m telling you this Daniel because I remember something now. There was this man, this crazy man, that told me I had to leave the island and never come back because I’ll die if I do comeback.” Daniel responds, “Why are you telling me this?” “Daniel, I think that man was you!!!” AWESOME, JUST AWESOME.
Jin makes John promise not to tell Sun that he is alive. Locke heads down the well and we get another flash of light. This time the well is no longer there and Sawyer is stuck holding a rope that’s coming out of the ground. Daniel pleads with Charlotte to hold on. He reveals that he told Desmond to find his mom, because she can help them. Charlotte dies…I was never a big fan, so I just wipe… that…dirt of my shoulder, but I am sure some of you shed a tear.
Locke’s at the bottom of the well, and it looks cold. Someone is coming…Who is it? Jacob, Richard, an Alien? Oh, it’s Jack’s dad, Christian Shepard. Christian is there to help John the rest of the way. “YOU” had to move the island John. Maybe that is why everything is going haywire on the island. Christian asks him to seek out Eloise Hawking in L.A. who can tell him exactly how to get back. John pushes the frozen donkey wheel and the scene cuts.
Jack, Sun, Sayid and now Desmond (NICE) arrive at Ms. Hawking’s church. “Are you looking for Faraday’s mother too?” Ben has an interested look on his face. We see a woman lighting a candle with her back turned…WAIT FOR IT…oh it’s Mrs. Eloise Hawking. Desmond just sh-t his pants.
“I thought I said all of them. Well I suppose that will have to do for now…Alright, lets get started!” BAM CUT TO CREDITS.
I read somewhere that Jack’s group will get back to the island by episode 7, and the constant time shifts should slow down after that happens. My questions to all of you. When John Locke turns the donkey wheel and physically leaves the island,
1. Did the time shifting stop? If so, where are Juliet, Jin, Miles, etc. now?
2. Will Locke go into the future to the present of Jack and the others (2 ½ to 3 years forward)?
3. If Locke moves forward in time, do the rest of the islanders go to that Time as well?
Pretty good episode and I am sure we’ll dive into exactly how to get back to the island next week.
Until next week, Namaste and Good Luck!
