Season V, Episode 4 - The Little Prince

Line of the night – “You want this baby…you’re not alone! We are all here for you…HE IS ALL OF US!” – Kate talking about Aaron
(I really believe there is more than meets the eye with Kate’s comment to Claire. Not so much the irony of Kate as his future pseudo-mom, but because of his importance to everyone on the island!)

I can’t stress this enough…Aaron is going to play a HUGE part in the end of this show. I said it 2 years ago…he is the key…I just got the chills.

First off, in the past any time Kate has been the focus of the episode, there has always been a few HUGE reveals and moments of sheer “jump up and say OHH YEAH!” joy. Last season for example, at the end of the episode called “Eggtown” when Kate entered her “son’s” bedroom, the little boy says, “Hi mommy!”…her reply…….”HEY AARON!”…I stand up; pump both fists in the air like Rocky after knocking out Ivan Drago; and just say YES.

So on to the episode…There’s Claire’s mom telling Jack the irony of he daughter and his half-sister being on the same flight…”Her name was Claire!” My thoughts on this – well this was one of the best scenes of last season and I wonder if this will have any significance later on in the episode? Switch to Kate on Penny’s boat, “I think we should say that he’s mine!” Kate’s the first to jump on board with Jack’s plan to lie. “Are you with me Kate?” Kate’s response to Jack, “I have always been with you!” Remind me to jump off a very tall structure if LOST ends with Jack and Kate’s wedding in a Joanie marries Chachi Happy Days-esque fashion. WHOOSH

Kate’s dressed up like she is going to a pharma sales job interview and leaves Reece (Aaron) with Sun. Hmmm, I don’t think that’s a good idea? Sun goes to the bedroom and opens a package that has documents from Surveillance Data Investigation, Inc. She’s tracking Benry’s every move. Oh look…a box of Lindt’s chocolates...my favorite. The only difference is the bag I buy at Costco doesn’t have a 9 mm glock in the bottom. WHOOSH

Back to the island and Daniel explains to Juliet, “It’s a neurological thing. Our brains have an internal clock with a sense of time. The flashes throw the clock off like a really bad jet lag.” Interesting point…but what is more interesting is that Miles has some 6th sense white patches in his side burns (I SEE DEAD PEOPLE). WHOOSH

Kate’s in the office of Mr. Norton the attorney and Kate’s ready to cut a deal as long as she finds out who the client is. However, the client insists that the exchange of custody remain quiet. “You did this to yourself…you are going to lose the boy!” Hmm…maybe it’s Richard Alpert or even Claire that is trying to get the baby…is that the reveal? We’ll find out. WHOOSH

Lots of back and forth scenes in this episode. John Locke says they have to go back to the Orchid, so the islanders go off to find the Zodiac boat at the beach. Locke reveals that “all this is happening because they left. I have to make them come back even if it kills me!” In the industry, we call that foreshadowing. WHOOSH

Finally we get to see our favorite Iraqi Torturer. Jack gets a call from Hurley who says, “I’m totally cool, I’m in LA County Lockup!” I laugh. A jacked up nurse walks into Sayid’s room and is ready to administer some meds, he turns around and fires two darts…uh oh Sayid’s not there anymore! Bam, here comes Badass Sayid and his ninja moves. Nice.

Sayid takes out the assassin and comes face to face with Benry again. They don’t look happy to see eachother. Jack finds out that the assassin had Kate’s address in his pocket. WHOOSH

Back on the island and a pillar of light appears in the distance. Locke automatically knows what ‘time’ it is. We are back in Season 1 and we hear a woman’s scream. Sawyer runs to the rescue and sees Kate delivering Claire’s baby. Awesome. We get the line of the night from Kate, “He’s all of us!” and Claire pushes out Aaron. At this point I am hoping that Sawyer talks to Kate so that she has a “memory” pop in her head in the future and agrees to join Ben’s crusade (because I told Brian Zack and Charlie-Boo that this would go down). My theoretical conversation between Sawyer and Kate never happens and I am ticked. A flash of light comes over the island and they are transported again.

Locke pesters Sawyer to reveal what he saw, but Sawyer holds back. Miles tells Daniel that he has a nose bleed too. Daniel says, “It could be due to the duration of exposure based on the amount of time you’ve spent on the island!” Miles said his first time on the island was 2 weeks ago. Daniel’s response, “Are you sure about that!” Cue the HIGH FIVE! Big REVEAL #1 of the night. Miles has been to the island before…perhaps as a baby…backing up Angela’s theory that he was the baby in the first episode (Dr. Candle/Chang’s kid). They make it back to the beach, but the base camp has been ran-sacked. They find 2 canoes and a bottle of Ajira Airways water. STOP…TIME OUT! I pause the show at this point to collect my thoughts. Ajira Airways is the airline with the slogan “Destination Destiny” and was featured in THE FRAY’s video for Season V of LOST.

Jack and Kate follow Mr. Norton to a shady motel where we see his apparent client with blonde hair…CLAIRE! Mr. Norton turns and Claire’s mom is revealed….well that’s a disappointment, but intriguing at the same time. Jack goes back to being himself, “I can fix this Kate…I can fix this…remember Aaron is my family too.” Jack gets a moment with Claire’s mom and she doesn’t have any clue what he is talking about when he says, “everything that Kate and I have done, it was for Aaron!’ So who is it then? Who is looking to reveal that Kate is not Aaron’s mother??? In the next scene, still in the future, Mr. Norton pulls up to the Mystery Mobile and explains to Benry that the D.A. will have no case against Hurley. Sayid asks who the person is and Ben’s response, “That’s my lawyer!” REVEAL #2 for the night…It’s Benry that’s after Aaron...he wants to force Kate to run so that it’s inevitable that she’ll join the Ocean 6 and head back to the island. WHOOSH

The islanders take the canoes and head for the orchid station. They are being shot at!? Maybe it’s not Jack and the Oceanic 6? We see a flash of light, and the islanders are alone in a rain storm….Change scenes and we are still in the rain storm. An inflatable raft is shown, and some young adults start speaking French as they see a body floating on a piece of ‘debris’ in the water. REVEAL #3 – YES…they’ve gone back in time to when Rousseau and her team of French scientists first crashed on the island! But who’s in the water on the piece of debris? REVEAL #4 – It’s JIN! (I stand up and pump my fists!) WOOSH

We are at Pier 23 (the numbers) and Jack/Kate get out of the car and find Sayid and Benry there. Kate figures out that it’s actually Ben who wants Aaron. Ben admits it. Uh oh…there’s Sun in the car with a 9 MM and Aaron in the backseat (who happens to be the worst fake sleeper I have ever seen). WHOOSH

The French group gets ashore and starts to talk with Jin (BTW it’s great to see him back). Hmmm that one chick with brown hair is pregnant….she talks to Jin. Hello…you speak English, what’s your name? “My name is Jin.”

“Hello Jin, My name is Danielle Rousseau!” BAMM CUE THE LOST SYMBOL.

So far…my favorite episode of the season. Thoughts?

It’s all coming together and I actually had posted on one of our discussion boards that I believe instead of seeing ‘flashbacks’ like we used to, we are going to see Daniel and the islanders group move back and forth through time on the island. This is how the writers are going to show us how Rousseau’s team all ‘got sick’, or maybe how the Black Rock pirate ship crashed in the middle of the jungle, or maybe even what the origins of 4-toed statue might be???? Simply brilliant on the part of the writers to provide us sicko Lost freaks with a look into the mysteries of the island through the perspective of Daniel, Locke, etc. What I don’t like is that they are leaving some characters hanging out to dry! Where is Rose, Bernard and the rest of the firewood gatherers???
Until next week, Namaste and Good Luck!
